EC introduces a Compressed Working Hours agreement for production staff (four day working week) and administration staff  (nine day fortnight) within its UK operation.

14th November 2007

Tony Mount, Operations Director of the EC Electronics Group comments,

‘ We have for a number of years, well  in advance of government legislation, embraced
 the concept of
‘flexible working‘ within our business, by offering part time working,
staggered hours and home working for a number of our staff.

Our internal consultations with staff endorse recent findings such as the Equal Opportunities Commission survey, that over 70% of working people, including non – parents, are in favour of flexible working. We see our latest initiative as a way forward
to cement our commitment to attracting and retaining the very best staff members and fully utilising all their talents and available experience to the full ‘

‘We believe it is important to offer employees the opportunity to balance their work and home life. In doing so we recognise that staff must be available to meet business needs, but see real benefits in terms of maintaining EC’s commitment to efficiency, productivity and high levels of customer satisfaction. ‘

EC also sees this initiative as a positive step toward to reducing its carbon footprint by reducing car journeys to and from work by up to 20%, thus enhancing its commitment to maintaining an environmentally friendly manufacturing operation.

EC believes its adoption of flexible working arrangements provides the basis for  positive management/workforce relationships, increased loyalty, motivation and a sense of greater responsibility and ownership from its staff.
